Omweer/Visit

Plan your visit
to Texel.

You don't reach an island by accident. Here's everything you need to know to visit Omweer: travel, accommodation, getting around Texel, and answers to the most-asked questions.

Getting to Texel

Texel is reached by TESO ferry from Den Helder. The crossing takes about 20 minutes and sails every half hour. Festival pass holders get a discount on a return ticket via the code in your confirmation email.

By public transport

From Amsterdam Centraal it's about 1h15 to Den Helder. From Den Helder station, bus 33 goes directly to the TESO ferry port (8 minutes). On Texel, festival shuttles and local buses connect all festival venues.

By car

From Amsterdam you're in Den Helder in around 1h30. Cars can come on the ferry (€ 40 return). On Texel itself we recommend parking the car at your accommodation — festival shuttles link all venues, and much of the island is best experienced by bike.

By bike

From the ferry port, festival shuttles run to the major venues. Bikes can be rented from multiple providers at the port and in every village — often at festival rates.

Where to stay

Omweer has reserved capacity at Texel accommodations for pass holders, with priority booking until 1 April 2026. After that date the reservations lapse and it's first-come-first-served.

Book via the Omweer reservation portal (link in your confirmation email) or directly with the accommodation using code OMWEER01.

Festival venues

The festival takes place at five main venues across the island. Festival shuttles make it easy to move between them. An interactive map will be available in the festival app (release 1 May).

Frequently asked questions

Is the festival suitable for children?

Most of the programme is aimed at adults. There is a limited Kids programme on Saturday and Sunday. Children under 12 are welcome free of charge at public open-air screenings (with a parent).

What language is spoken?

Most of the programme is in Dutch. International guests present in English — subtitling or translation is usually available. For keynotes and roundtables we communicate the working language in advance.

Is everything wheelchair accessible?

The main venues in Den Burg and De Cocksdorp are fully accessible. For other venues it varies per location; specific accessibility information is listed with each programme item in the app. Questions in advance? Email toegankelijkheid@omweer.nl.

Is there food and drink on site?

Catering is available at all main venues — coffee, lunches, dinner. Texel also has an extensive range of restaurants, cafés and beach pavilions. Recommendations in the festival app.

Can I film or take photos?

Personal photos for social media are fine, with due respect for fellow visitors. Professional filming or photography of screenings and keynotes is only permitted with a press pass or in consultation with the organisation.
